BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A Calhoun County jury has convicted Kolbie McGinn in the 2019 murder and robbery of 27-year-old Michael Corbin after a trial which lasted for three days.
The jury deliberated for over an hour before convicting McGinn on charges of First Degree Felony Murder, Armed Robbery and two counts of Felony Firearm.
Corbin was shot and killed with a handgun in his home during a robbery that occurred on November 23, 2019.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 31, 2022, before Judge John Hallacy.
As McGinn was 17 years old and therefore considered a minor at the time of the offense, under Michigan law at the time of sentencing the court is required to hold a hearing to determine whether life without parole is an appropriate sentence based on McGinn’s age and other factors at the time of the offense.
McGinn’s was one of two minors charged in this case.
The case involving Trenton Cohoon, who was also 17 at the time of the offense, is pending trial.
