LAKESTOWN TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 8, 2022) – Children and their parents got a chance to use all their senses to explore the trails at the 40-acre Shore Acres Township Park, 6602 138 th Ave., Laketown Township, on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, during the “Explore with Your Senses” program. Analiese Schmitt of the Outdoor Discovery Center led about a dozen people to smell sassafras leaves, make a whistle with fallen acorns, feel tree bark and listen to woodpeckers and other animals.
The program for children 3 to 9 years old was through the Outdoor Discovery Center, 4214 56 th St., and sponsored by Laketown Township.
The next Outdoor Discovery Center program in Laketown Township is 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Huyser Farm Park, 4148 64th St. “Night Hike” is a walk through
the woods at night. Use your senses along the walk to find out how much you can feel, touch, hear and see at night. Learn how nocturnal animals use their other senses to survive in the evening. The free event is for people 8 years old and up.
