GRAND HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 8, 2022) – For the second time in as many weeks, the discovery of a body in northern Ottawa County may be of a missing man.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks, family and friends of 34-year-old James Alan McKinnon had not seen him since he left his River Haven Boulevard home in Grand Haven Township last Tuesday, August 30th. He walked out of the residence around 12 Noon on that day, and was last seen walking in the area in grey shorts with an unknown shirt.
On Wednesday evening, Sparks said that deputies were dispatched around 3:30 PM to a wooded area off of Clearwater Lane where a body was discovered by Sheriff’s Department Marine Patrol and Dive Team units who were seaching along the Grand River at the time. An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle was also deployed, and those who knew the missing man were assisting on foot.
“Though the body of the deceased has not yet been positively identified, investigators belive it is to be that of (Mr.) McKinnon,” Sparks said in a department statement. “The identity, cause and manner of death will be determined after the completion of an autopsy. However, foul play is not suspected at this time.”
Last Thursday, a body was found in a drainpipe from a storm sewer in Coopersville. It was determined that it was the body of Erik Johnson, who was reported as missing on August 13th. His death was also initially determined not to be from foul play.
The investigation into both of these unrelated matters continues.
