Nellie was born on March 10, 1945, to John and Emma Helder. She graduated from Zeeland High School in 1963. She became a nurse and later married Paul C. Brouwer on May 7, 1971. Nellie and Paul raised their children in Zeeland and are members of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Later, Nellie worked for the Haworth Center Client Dining. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Art Broekhuis, and her sister-in-law Mary Brouwer.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Paul, their children: Dawn and Matt Harsevoort of Zeeland, Dan Brouwer of Hudsonville, grandchildren: Jarod Harsevoort, Jordyn Harsevoort, Jaylyn Harsevoort; sister Marcia Broekhuis, brothers-in-law: Maurice and Shirley Brouwer, Lynn and Betty Brouwer; and many extended family members.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1015 East 32nd Street, Holland MI 49423. Visiting hours will be 5:00-7:00 pm, Wednesday, September 7, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. The interment will be in West Drenthe Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Right to Life of Holland, 607 Heritage Ct., Holland MI 49423.
