Michael Arthur Dunlap passed from this earth on August 18, 2022, at age 72. He was a lover of people, sailing, and cars. He received his B.S. in Engineering from Western Michigan University, followed by an MBA from the University of Michigan. He developed expertise in commercial office seating and was employed for many years in the automotive and commercial seating business. In later years he served as an independent contractor, where he provided advice to industry personnel and service as an expert in litigation. He was a long-time contributor to the WGVU program, The Morning Show, hosted by Shelly Irwin. Mike’s segment was called “From Where I Sit.”
Mike was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable sailor. Besides cruising Lake Macatawa and Lake Michigan, he sailed to and from Sheboygan, Wisconsin, many times as part of a fun-loving group called “The Burro Masters.” His sailing interest led to membership in the “Anchorage Marina and Yacht Club,” where he served on the Board. He also belonged to several civic groups, among which were “The West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum,” and board membership on the “Holland Arts Council”.
Mike is survived by his brother, Peter Dunlap (Mary Margaret); sister, Ellen Angell Dunlap; special friend, Connie Vander Velde; niece, Laura Bogardus, and two nephews, Mark Dunlap (Marta) and Benjamin Dunlap (Jennifer). He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Doris Dunlap, infant sister, Patricia; and brother-in-law, Christian Schad.
A memorial service will take place on Thursday, September 1 at 3:00 pm at Dykstra Funeral Home – Downtown Chapel, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Holland Arts Council.
