Authorities say the accident happened in the 2700 block of West Michigan Avenue, where officers discovered what appeared to be a pedestrian in the roadway that had been struck by an automobile.
The vehicle involved and the operator fled the scene of the accident. Officers immediately began providing medical attention to the injured pedestrian and located the involved motorist a short time later at a residence in the city
KDPS says the driver, a 22-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was determined to be operating while under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and was arrested on related charges and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
