KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’s an incident you rarely, if ever, see on a city street.
Tuesday a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Sergeant came across a small reptile believed to be an American alligator crawling across Lake Street near Division Street in the Edison Neighborhood.
Officers were able to safely secure the gator to prevent it from getting into the city sewer system. A local alligator sanctuary was contacted in Athens, Michigan before turning it over to animal control.
KDPS officials say as a reminder for those in the community who choose to keep exotic pets, Chapter 7 of the city ordinance covers the ownership of such animals within the city limits, and should you find yourself not capable of caring for any pet, there are resources available to properly resolve the situation.
