HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 24, 2022) – As another long-time “Mom & Pop” store in the Holland area plans to close its doors, it brings the question of the future of family-owned business entities back into the forefront locally.
This past Saturday, Jim and Jamie Bussis announced that they would be shuttering Paul’s Pharmacy on Holland’s south side after owning it for nearly three decades, citing the wish to retire. It comes on the heels of other long-held, locally-held businesses who have made the decision to close for various reasons.
Randy Meppelink, the Ottawa County Commissioner who owns Great Lakes Window Coverings on Holland’s North Side, said in a Tuesday appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town” that being adaptable to the winds of change is essential for small local businesses to survive.
Paul’s Pharmacy closed its pharmaceutical operations on Monday, shifting those receiving prescriptions from its store to a Walgreen’s outlet off of South Washington Street, and begins a “going out of business” sale of its retail inventory on Wednesday.
