HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 23, 2022) – Word of an arrest in a veterans fundraising scam has raised the flag of awareness for organizations who help those who served this country.
Police in Scottsdale, Arizona announced on Sunday the arrest of 57-year-old Robert Alexander for allegedly collecting money from May through July on behalf of the Wounded Warrior Project for a tournament at a local golf course. The tournament never existed and the Wounded Warrior Project, a legitimate nonprofit for veterans and active-duty service members, didn’t know Alexander.
Locally, Holland VFW Post #2144 Commander Garrett Dickey says stories such as this should serve as a warning.
The post is currently holding a “buddy poppy drive” fundraiser in the Holland area for what the national VFW says, “provides financial assistance in maintaining state and national veterans’ rehabilitation and service programs, and partially supports the VFW National Home for Children.”
