Abraham “Abe” Perales Sr., age 87 of Holland, passed away on May 2, 2020. Abe served as a police officer with the Holland City Police Department for 26 years, the first Hispanic police officer for the city. During this time, he would be named Police Officer of the year in 1979. In retirement Abe worked security at Holland Hospital and as a courier for Zeeland Community Hospital. In his spare time, Abe enjoyed golfing, was a dedicated Detroit Tigers and Lions fan, and visited family in the Rio Grande Valley and Mexico. Abe was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where he attended with his wife Juana until her passing in 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife Juana Maria Perales, son Juan Carlos, daughter Elva Alicia, his parents, brothers Francisco Perales, Jr., and Pablo Perales. Surviving are his children Abraham and Sandra Perales Jr., Laura Perales, John and Lori Perales, Mario Perales, Gerard and Anna Perales, Martha and David Scherer, and Mary and Russ Logan; 18 Grandchildren; 31 Great grandchildren; and 6 Great-great grandchildren; Many extended family. He is also survived by his step-mother Maria Perales, brothers Antonio Perales, Roberto Perales, Bernie Perales, Joe Perales, and sisters Andrea Palomo, Enedina Garza, Macaria Alvarez, Maria de Jesus Marquez, Elida Ramirez, Gloria Lopez, Maria E.
