CLEVELAND, OH (WKZO AM/FM) – Kerry Carpenter homered as the Detroit Tigers edged the Guardians 4-3 in Cleveland Tuesday night.
The win by the last place Tigers tightened up the three team battle for first place in the American League Central. Cleveland lead is down to one game after both the White Sox and Twins won last night.
The Guardians trailed 4-1 heading into the seventh inning until Myles Straw drove in a run and Jose Ramirez cut the deficit to one in the eighth with an R-B-I single. But Gregory Soto shut the door on the Guardians in the ninth.
Garrett Hill gave up just one run over six innings to earn the win.
Detroit is 45-and-74 on the season. The four game series wraps up in Cleveland tonight.
