HOLLAND, MI (WHTC AM/FM) — Heavy rains in West Michigan on Saturday, August 13, seem to be the most likely cause of a multi-vehicle accident that injured two people, one seriously.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash around 6 p.m. on northbound US-31 north of 16th Street in Holland Township.
Investigation on scene showed that a 38-year-old Holland resident was traveling south on US-31 in a 2007 Toyota when they bean to hydroplane due to heavy rain in the area. The 2007 Toyota lost control and crossed the median striking a northbound 2001 Dodge pickup head on, that was driven by a 71-year-old, also of Holland.
The driver of the Toyota was taken to the Holland Hospital by AMR Ambulance with serious injuries.
The driver of the Dodge was transported to Holland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash itself remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
