Gerald ‘Jerry’ DeKoster age 88, of Holland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at his home.
He was born in 1934 to Harry and Edna De Koster and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Shirley Slenk, daughter to George and Anna Slenk, at East Saugatuck CRC in 1955.
Gerald was a member of Maranatha Christian Reformed Church and worked at several local boat manufacturers as a trimmer. He retired as a truck driver for Holland Special Delivery.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time at cottages with family and friends. He also enjoyed driving and traveling to many states.
He was preceded in death by his son, Lloyd in 1998; daughter, Dawn Evink in 2019; son-in-law, Robert Copeland in 2019; sisters and brothers-in-law Jack and Esther DeVries and Jim and Bernice DeRidder.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley; son, Doug, and Vicky of Rock Hills, SC.; daughter, Lori Copeland of Walker, MI.; daughter-in-law, Dawn and Michael Payne of Holland; son-in-law, Russ Evink of Vriesland; siblings, Don and Henrietta DeKoster of Holland, Sandy and Clint Meyering of Southgate, MI; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Matt, Michelle, Larissa, Jeremy, Kamarie, Kalynn, Dainen; 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services with military honors will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church, 918 Central Ave. Holland with Rev. Matthew Stob officiating. Burial will be in East Saugatuck Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Holland and World Renew.
