COLUMBUS, OH (WTVB) – Ohio State University quarterback Justin Fields is trying to save the 2020 football season. He’s started a petition requesting the Big Ten immediately reinstate the season.
Fields tweeted that this cause is close to his heart. Big Ten officials decided last week not to play this fall on the advice of medical officials. Spring games could be an option.
Concerned parents of 81 Nebraska football players sent a letter to Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren and posted it on Twitter yesterday to declare their annoyance at postponing the fall sports season.
They urged the conference to include input from players and coaches from each university on such decisions. They wrote they do not want to make light of COVID-19, but their sons are willing to assume risk to play this fall.
The Southeastern Conference is set to announce its 2020 football schedule tonight. Last month, the SEC established September 26th as the new kickoff for its 2020 football season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The season will consist of a 10-game conference-only schedule and the SEC Football Championship Game is scheduled to be played December 19 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, rescheduled from the original date of December 5, 2020.
