GUN PLAIN TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Several kayakers who got stranded on the Kalamazoo River in Allegan County’s Gun Plain Township had to be rescued Saturday.
According to the Plainwell Department of Public Safety, authorities responded to a call that several people in kayaks were stuck, and one person was in the water hanging onto a log. One of the individuals reportedly had a deep cut on their face.
Several agencies with water rescue equipment were sent to help the Gun Plain Fire Department rescue the victims.
The kayakers were located at a bend in the river near North 16th Street and West Baseline Road, just inside Allegan County.
Rescuers were able to use ropes placed upstream and across from the victims to rescue the injured kayaker.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division helped take the injured kayaker to a Plainwell EMS transport vehicle for treatment of minor injuries.
