CHICAGO, IL (WKZO AM/FM) – Reliever Gregory Soto helped Detroit hang on in the the ninth inning to lead the Tigers to a 2-1 win over the White Sox in Chicago Thursday night.
Soto earned his 17th save after stranding Chicago’s game-tying run at third and game-winning run at second in the bottom of the ninth.
Javier Baez homered, while Spencer Torkelson added an RBI single in the top of the ninth to provide Detroit with a much-needed insurance run. Beau Brieske earned his second win after holding the Southsiders to just two hits in six-and-a-third scoreless innings.
The Tigers are on a five-game winning streak. Dylan Cease fell to 7-and-4 after surrendering just one run in six innings.
The White Sox have dropped three of four. The Tigers are 35-and-47.
Detroit will battle Chicago again tonight, with the opening pitch at 8:10 p.m. EDT.
