ALBION, MI (WHTC) – Brandan Campbell ran for 162 yards and a touchdown, while Darren Ford booted three field goals, as Hope College held off the Britons in Albion on Saturday, 16-13.
Campbell’s 54-yard scoring scamper with less than five minutes remaining in the first quarter opened the scoring for the Flying Dutchmen (6-3), who posted their fifth straight victory. Ford added three pointers from 24, 46 and 46 yards again, and Hope held on for the triumph despite allowing two second-half rushing touchdowns from Doug Freeman of the Britons (1-8).
The Flying Dutchmen end MIAA play with a 5-1 record, and could finish in a tie for the league title if Olivet (8-1, 5-0 MIAA) lose its season finale at home to Trine next Saturday. The Comets are assured of securing the NCAA Division III tournament berth by virtue of beating Hope in Holland earlier this season.
The Orange and Blue conclude the campaign by hosting Concordia of Wisconsin at Ray & Sue Smith Stadium next Saturday. Coverage begins at 12:40 PM on the Lakeshore’s 92.7 The Van.
