HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies continue two separate searches, according to Capt. Jake Sparks.
One is just along Lake Michigan’s shoreline, for the body of Eliza Trainer, 16.
She was swept into the lake by a wave while on the pier with a friend late New Year’s Day. Sheriff’s dive team and marine patrol deputies Conditions on the lake remained dangerous Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, with high wind and waves, so deputies were limited to using a boat and sonar technology.
Deputies were aided by Michigan State Police marine units during early morning hours of Friday and late Thursday by drones from the Holland Township and Park Township fire departments.
Sheriff’s dive team members are also looking for Coopersville resident Hunter Klompstra, 18, along a stretch of the Grand River, after an extensive inland-area search Thursday.
He’d left a New Year’s Eve party on foot early in the morning hours of January 1, 2020, and has been unreachable by family and friends since.
