LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – For a first-term Republican, Luke Meerman has moved up quickly in Lansing.
The freshman lawmaker from Coopersville was named on Thursday to fill a vacancy on the state House Ways and Means Committee, which is seen as the clearinghouse for most policy bills coming out of the Lower Chamber. A commercial dairy farmer by trade, Meerman was involved in the state budgetary process through his work on four other committees, including Agriculture. In replacing House Speaker Pro Tem Jason Wentworth of Farwell, who is stepping down due to what MIRS News says are “time management concerns,” Meerman will relinquish his other committee assignments.
Meerman won his seat in the Legislature when term-limited Roger Victory moved up to the state Senate in 2018.
