HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The Allegan County Animal Shelter officials are reminding people the facility will be closed from Jan. 17 through Feb. 17, 2020 for building repairs.
The work includes animal housing flooring, improved heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, and a new sink for the surgical area. During this time, shelter officials says, no strays will be accepted and all animals currently held in the animal shelter need to be removed.
Wishbone is currently collecting foster applications for dogs and cats to be housed privately. Fostering of an animal includes all medical care and food.
Foster locations must be within 45-minute drive of the Allegan Shelter. Fosters with current dogs in the home will need to have current distemper/ rabies/ bordetella vaccines, heartworm tested and on prevention, spay/neutered documentation.
Once approved, foster volunteers are required to bring their fostered dogs to do meet/greets with potential owners. Some adoptable dogs/cats may not be suitable for homes with other animals or small children. Fostering an animal is based on the foster home setting. Any animal that cannot be fostered privately will be boarded at a boarding facility and paid for by donations raised by Wishbone.
Wishbone office staff will continue to work Monday – Saturday to process adoption applications. Calls and emails will be forwarded to a working location during the shelter closure.
