HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The two people who died in the Holland Township crash on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, are Elena Young, 33, of Holland, and her daughter, Angelina Trevino, 16, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike VanDenBosch.
The crash investigation has revealed that neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the crash, he said, and speed was not a factor in the three-car collision Sunday afternoon that sent three others to area hospitals.
Ms. Trevino was a West Ottawa High student, and school authorities were notified early Monday morning, to be prepared for her classmates’ reactions.
Pedro Castro set up a GoFundMe account to help Young’s family.
He told WHTC his nephew Lorice Young was “between jobs, was just about to start a new job” as a machine operator, and will not likely be able to work for some time. The family includes two younger children, a daughter and a son.
Lorice and Elena Young had been together for 17 years, he said, childhood sweethearts.
“It’s going to be very hard for him. We’re going to get him through this. It’ll be a while…” Castro said, his voice cracking. “His life is destroyed, basically, but he still has to be there for his two other kids.”
The crash destroyed the family’s car. Lorice Young’s family plans to help him in the days ahead, Castro said, but his nephew will need help with larger expenses, including hospital, funeral, and burial costs.”We’re going to do what we can and work out the rest, but anything the public can do would help. Anything, even prayers and condolences,” Castro said.
The GoFundMe account https://www.gofundme.com/f/35aja-help-the-young-family set up aims to raise $15,000; within seven hours, 22 donors had given just over $1,200.
