HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Local judges recently named Careerline Tech Center Graphic Design program student and Hudsonville High School junior Avery Brody as an American Vision Award nominee in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition on January 10. Only five works of writing and five works of art are selected from each region by local judges as American Voices & Visions nominees.
Sally Salkowski, graphic design instructor for CTC, said she challenged her students to have a message and a concept with their entries. “This competition attracts the best of the best and my students rose to the occasion,” Salkowski said. “Besides Avery’s amazing win, our class received 10 Gold Key awards, 14 Silver Key awards, and 10 honorable mentions. We were bouncing off the walls with excitement!”
All Gold Key, Silver Key, and American Vision Award-winning art from the 43 counties in the region will be on display February 11 – 29 in the Fed Galleries at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University in Grand Rapids, an affiliate partner of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. An awards ceremony will be held Saturday, February 29 at 3:00 at Fountain Street Church.
A panel of jurors in New York City will judge Brody’s digital concept art entry titled Into Eons March 6 against American Vision Award winners from around the country and name one art and one writing category winner.
