GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It’s a “dress rehearsal” for the March 10th Presidential Preference Primary in Ottawa County.
Today concludes a state legally-mandated Public Accuracy Testing program in which over 20,000 ballots were run through voting machines in 112 precincts county-wide. County Clerk Justin Roebuck’s office is working with all 23 local clerks to complete this test.
“We have to make sure that (the machines) are accurately counting the votes and accurately spitting out the ballots that aren’t supposed to be counted,” he said during an appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town.” “It is a really important aspect of our testing, because we are not only testing for accuracy, but we’re testing to make sure that everything functions.”
Roebuck added that once test results are validated, showing that the vote-counting machines are accurately tallying ballots, the machines are sealed until Election Day, when precinct workers unseal the machines to count voters’ official ballots. See the testing process in this video.
