WAYLAND TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police are continuing to investigate after a dog was found shot in Allegan County this week.
Michigan state troopers responded on Wednesday, February 25th to calls of a wounded dog at the intersection of 5th Street and 129th Avenue close to Wayland Township.
The unattended to dog was taken to Dorr Veterinary clinic to be treated after it was discovered to have been shot in the neck.
Troopers say it’s unclear both who the dogs owner is and who may have shot the animal.
Veterinary Practice Manager Molly Spica says the dog is currently having its wounds repaired and is going through surgery. She says the bullet that struck the dog passed through only a centimeter away from his spinal cord, but otherwise the mutt is in stable condition.
The mixed-breed canine could be put up for adoption if it recovers from its wounds and it’s owner is not found. A first step before adoption would be veterinary clinic staff fostering the dog until it is healthy again.
“So the animal might no necessarily stay here but all of our staff will take turns making sure he is fully recovered before going to the wishbone agency to adopt him out,” Spica said.
