HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Consumers Energy officials, citing the COVID-19 virus and the unprecedented circumstances its created around the world, will suspend shutoffs for non-payment for low-income and senior customers from March 16, 2020 through April 5, 2020.
These timeframes could be adjusted depending on the spread and severity of the virus, company officials said.
Those already enrolled in Winter Protection Program have seen end dates extended through May 3, 2020, without any additional actions required on their part.
All shut-off notices will be withheld to prevent any additional stress for these vulnerable customers company officials said.
Consumers Energy, Michigan’s largest energy provider, is the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy (NYSE: CMS), providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.7 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
