SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – One Lakeshore community is holding off on public meetings for a while, while another will continue to convene, although less frequently than before.
Saugatuck City Manager Kirk Harrier announced on Thursday that this coming Monday’s scheduled City Council meeting has been pushed back to Monday, April 13th, beginning at 7 PM in the second floor meeting room at City Hall. “Michigan’s Governor recently issued a directive that recommends all public bodies must, to the extent possible, consider postponing public meetings until a later time in order to protect public health and help stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus,” Harrier explained in a statement.
This comes as the City of Holland’s Council will only hold business meetings during the COVID-19 situation, eschewing work-study sessions. Governor Whitmer on Wednesday signed an executive order allowing local units of government to hold teleconference meetings, waiving the Open Meetings Act mandate against such sessions, but Second Ward Councilman Jay Peters, in an interview on “WHTC Talk of the Town” on Thursday, said that the Holland council decided against taking that option for the time being and will continue to hold its business meetings in Chambers at Holland City Hall. Those sessions are live streamed through the city’s website and on community access channels with Comcast/Xfinity and AT&T U-verse cable.
