BLOOMINGDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 22-year-old Pullman man is spending the weekend in the Van Buren County Jail after a late Friday morning arrest just south of Baseline Road.
According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Tony Evans, deputies in a prowl car in the vicinity of 44th Street and County Road 390 near Bloomingdale spotted a white 2008 Ford Expedition that had been reported stolen out of Allegan County. “The male driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was clocked on radar at a high rate of speed,” Evans explained. “While attempting to catch up to the vehicle, the vehicle began to flee. Emergency lights and sirens were utilized, but the suspect failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.
“The pursuit went into Allegan County, where additional assistance was provided by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police. The suspect stopped his vehicle near 110th Avenue and 49th Street and ran into the woods.
“Responding officers quickly established a perimeter to contain the suspect … and the suspect was tracked by (an Allegan County Sheriff’s Office canine) and taken into custody without further incident.”
The unnamed suspect awaits arraignment in District Court on various charges.
