KENT COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Drivers on US-131 will see lane closures due to a planned bridge demolition this weekend in southern Kent County.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says that lane closures will be in place from 9 a.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Monday, March 30th at the 100th Street overpass in Bryon Township.
A posted detour will let vehicles use the on and off ramps at the 100th Street overpass to continue on US-131. Traffic on the southbound and northbound lanes of US-131 will be impacted by the road closure.
MDOT says that beginning on Friday all access to the 100th Street bridge over US-131 will be closed until October. An entire stretch of the road between South Kent Drive and Division Avenue will be closed to traffic throughout the construction period.
Drivers are advised to use a detour route over nearby Clyde Park Avenue, 84th Street, and Division Avenue to travel over the highway.
The $10.5 million dollar project involves removing the 100th Street bridge and reconstructing most of the interchange.
The shorter-than-normal overpass became an internet sensation when someone created the 100th Street Overpass Facebook page after it was hit numerous times by oversized semi-trucks.
