UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) – Three road projects are on tap this month along the Lakeshore.
Michigan Department of Transportation contractors are slated to be in the vicinity of Business 196 at 112th Avenue, between Holland and Zeeland on Monday, completing work on converting that intersection into a “Michigan Turn” junction that began last year. The intersection is considered one of the more dangerous ones in Ottawa County, with more than the normal share of crashes and injuries, due in part to signalized left hand turns and the 55 mile-per-hour speed limit on the divided state trunk road. The project is slated to run through May 2nd.
Also on Monday, crews will be working in both directions of I-196 between M-40 and 130th Avenue, near the bridge over the Kalamazoo River in the Saugatuck/Douglas area, for “soil testing,” according to M-DOT. There will be intermittent lane closures from 8 AM to 5 PM weekdays through May 1st. This work may be ahead of future road renovation along that stretch of highway.
Finally, road work on eastbound I-196, from the Ottogan Street overpass to the Byron Road exit, has an April 20th start date and a completion target of May 22nd. There will be one lane open during the project, which complements one done on the westbound lanes in that same area last year.
M-DOT officials say that the timetable for all three projects are dependent on the COVID 19 situation and weather conditions.
