ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – How should society get restarted after its abrupt halt last month due to COVID 19?
In the US, there appears to be a variety of solutions. President Trump on Thursday unveiled new federal guidelines that include metrics for testing and protocol to protect vulnerable populations, with the ultimate decision up to each state governor. A consortium of regional chief executives, including Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer, say that they are working together to determine how and when to reopen the region’s economy, and state Republican legislative leaders have rolled out their “Open Michigan Safely Plan.”
The ultimate solution, according to Republican Congressman Bill Huizenga of Zeeland, lies in a joint effort among all leaders, national and local. “The question is, are we going to allow people to try and return to work and to live as much as a normal life as possible, as circumstances dictate, or is it going to be focused only on one particular circumstance in Michigan that makes it a blanket policy?” he said during a Thursday interview on “WHTC Morning News.”
Huizenga and other Republican members of the state’s Congressional delegation had a conference call yesterday morning with Governor Whitmer stemming from their letter to her earlier this week questioning the increased restrictions that went along with her extension of the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order.
