KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — This year’s Memorial Day parade in Kalamazoo County has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
The Kalamazoo Sunrise Rotary Club said in a statement released on Monday that the upcoming event is being canceled due to the escalating coronavirus pandemic in an effort to protect participants and onlookers from exposure.
Held on May 25th, the parade has in past years begun on Michigan Avenue in downtown Kalamazoo before ending at Riverside Cemetery on Gull Road where a ceremony honoring veterans is held.
Despite the cancelation, organizers still encourage the public to recognize the day honoring fallen service members at home.
“We encourage everyone to continue giving special recognition and remembrance of those who have served to preserve and protect our freedom. Stay home, stay safe and remember why we celebrate Memorial Day,” a released statement by the organization said.
