HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A kayaker on Hennessy Lake in Tallmadge Township got rescued just after 10:45 a.m. Saturday April 25, 2020.
Deputies could see the kayak had capsized, and Grandville resident Joel Bundy, 42, was in the water, yelling for help and holding onto the kayak. The kayak was upside down, half submerged, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt Matt Wildfong.
Deputies borrowed a kayak from a nearby residence, paddling out into the lake to assist the kayaker. At the same time, a man who lives near the lake, Geary Farrell, used a rowboat to go oneto the lake, and was able to get Bundy into his boat and bring him ashore.
Bundy was treated for hypothermia at the scene by Life Ambulance EMTs, and released afterwards, according to Wildfong.
Sheriff’s officials advise people planning to go out on the water in any craft to wear a life vest.
