HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 16, 2022) – A popular Holland tourist attraction reopens today.
Nelis’ Dutch Village on the North Side closed last Thursday following an overnight barn fire that led to the deaths of some of the animals that were housed inside. Brothers Harry and JP Nelis say that they and park staff had cleared out at least 11 containers of debris since then.
Much of the attractions at the park off of James Street and US-31 will immediately be accessible, but the return of the animals will come in stages, as tents and mini-barns for storage/feed and for interacting with the animals will temporarily replace the one large barn that was destroyed.
One activity that returns this weekend is stroopwafel making for youngsters and the young at heart. Officials say that this had been suspended for the past two years due to COVID 19 health protocols.
