HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) –It started Thursday, April 30, 2020 — an uptick in traffic in and around downtown Holland. While most license plates belonged to Michigan residents, a smattering indicates out-of-state visitors on Saturday, May 2, including from the State of Washington, New York, Indiana, Illinois, Virginia, among others.
Allegan County has 107 positive COVID-19 cases and 2 deaths related to COVID-19. There are a total of 16 individuals recovered, based on the MDHHS definition.
Ottawa County reports 308 people with the virus, 16 deaths, with 31 hospitalized and 66 considered recovered.
So many showed up at the Grand Haven State Park, Michigan DNR officials announced on Facebook on end, for now, to park access by vehicle until further notice.
“On Saturday, high numbers of visitors occurred at the park, demonstrating issues with maintaining proper social distancing standards and areas of congregation took place within the parking lot and campground area,” the Facebook post read. “The park will be closed to vehicular access until further notice as a measure to ensure control of social distancing of at least 6 feet. Grand Haven State Park’s day use areas remain open to the public, with reduced amenities.”
People can still visit that park, according to the DNR statement, but must park in the City of Grand Haven, observing the city’s rules for parking.
Health officials strongly encourage people to behave as if COVID-19, an aggressive upper-respiratory virus, is present wherever they happen to be, and act accordingly.
