HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Community Action House officials announced a $3,000 donation to its COVID-19 emergency response fund, from Horizon Bank of Holland
“Community Action House (CAH) is well-equipped to provide critical food, clothing, and shelter to those in need,” said Matt Hamm, CAH market director, adding food needs are up, and processes are in place to safeguard the health of guests, volunteers, supporters, and staff.
One way is with the new curbside food box pickup; another is that more groceries are provided at each visit. CAH has seen an eight-fold increase in weekly food purchases to keep up with the increased need.
CAH adjusted its street-outreach services to houseless people, and foreclosure Intervention efforts have been stepped up to help homeowners facing sudden challenges.
Since the start of COVID-19 emergency operations on March 16, CAH has provided over 92,500 meals’ worth of groceries to more than 3,350 people.
“Beyond food assistance, we’ve continued to be a strong network of support for other critical needs, including efforts in foreclosure intervention,” said Scott Rumpsa, CAH’s executive director. “[Horizon Bank of Holland’s donation] helps us meet a surge in demand and sustain our best efforts to help our neighbors when they need it most.”

CAH officials note that hundreds of area families have joined the #stayhomefighthunger campaign — some are packing family food boxes at home, others are donating money, and still others are volunteering on-site to ensure groceries are packed and meals prepared for those neighbors in need.
