HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A two-vehicle crash injured a Grand Rapids man just after 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2020, in Holland Township, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Nicholas Knott.
A 33-year-old Hamilton man, driving a 2013 Ford pickup had been eastbound on Lakewood near the ramp to northbound US31, hit a 2018 Chevrolet, with the 74-year-old Grand Rapids man at the wheel, according to police.
The Hamilton man later told police he was distracted by his Bluetooth and didn’t see the other vehicle, entering Lakewood from a private drive.
The crash sent the pickup off the road, where it rolled into a ditch. A witness told police the traffic light at the intersection had turned green for the private drive, and other traffic on Lakewood had stopped for the signal.
The Grand Rapids man went to Spectrum Health Zeeland via AMR Ambulance, for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The Hamilton man was ticketed and released.
Holland Township firefighters assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
