HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The COVID-19-caused cancellation of South Haven’s traditional Memorial Day parade and cemetery service didn’t discourage veterans from paying their respects on Monday, May 25, 2020.
Medal of Honor recipient and Vietnam veteran James McCloughan of South Haven had planned on the leading hte parade for the 50th consecutive year. He decided to make the mile-long trek through the downtown to Lakeview Cemetery on his own to pay tribute to those who have paid the ultimate price.
Members of American Legion Post 49’s Honor Guard joined him. Afterward, keeping socially distanced, they played taps and held the 21-gun salute.
