HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a train-semi-tractor-trailer crash near Chicago Drive and 72nd Avenue in Zeeland Township Thursday afternoon, June 4, 2020.Police learned an empty milk tanker had been southbound on 72nd Avenue and stopped at Chicago Drive. The driver was waiting for traffic to clear to turn onto Chicago Drive.
But while stopped, an eastbound train approached, activating the mechanical crossing guards and an alarm.
The train hit the tanker trailer, which was on the tracks. No one was hurt, police said, and the train wasn’t damaged. The tanker had what police characterized as moderate damage; the crossing guard arm was damaged and the tracks blocked for some time.
