HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The body of 17-year-old Grand Rapids resident Christian Ngabo has been recovered from Lake Michigan near Holland State Park.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies, working with Michigan State Police and Allegan County deputies, started searching on Sunday, June, 7, 2020, are resumed searching at 7 a.m. Monday.
Mr. Ngabo’s body was recovered at 9 a.m.
He’d gone swimming in the lake with his 19-year-old brother, but conditions included waves hitting 4 to 6 feet and possible rip currents. The two began to struggle and bystanders threw life rings in the water. But only the 19-year-old was able to save himself.
He is one of two who drowned at Holland State Park on Sunday; 6 year old Iain Isiah Rowe‘s body was recovered Sunday night. The investigation remains open pending an autopsy, but police say foul play is not suspected.
