HOLALND (WHTC-AM/FM) — National Weather Service meteorologists says scattered thunderstorms may develop today and tonight. Lightning strikes could knock out power to some — and locally heavy downpours can limit visibility for drivers. The weather alert is in effect for Ottawa, Allegan and Van Buren counties.
The rough weather will cause problems at the beach on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 — with high wave action, strong currents, and dangerous swimming conditions expected from Tuesday morning through the afternoon. Anyone going to the beach should be aware of flag conditions at all times.
Piers may be heavily swamped by waves. Strong currents can pull swimmers into deeper water. For safety’s sake people should skip swimming Tuesday, but those who do go into the water should be wearing a flotation device.
The north side of north piers will be especially dangerous, particularly at Holland State Park and the north beach in South Haven.
