HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Boaters with plans to recreate on Port Sheldon Township’s Pigeon Lake can expect to take it slowly.
Township officials applied for and received permission from Michigan DNR to issue “slow, no-wake” orders on Pigeon Lake.
Several municipalities are pursuing this option to limit shoreline erosion created by the current high water levels, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Marine Sgt. Eric Westveer. Until December 18, 2020, all of Pigeon Lake is now, by ordinance, a “slow, no wake” lake. Expect to see new signs are all the boat launches and some extra buoys on the lake, Westveer said.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s marine patrol deputies will be more visible to make sure boaters are following the new ordinance, Westveer said. Any boaters with questions about the new rules are encouraged to contact Port Sheldon Township officials or the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office marine officials.
