HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Drivers can expect to see extra police officers patrolling the roads between Wednesday, July 1 and Sunday, July 19, 2020.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Office of Highway Safety and Planning for this special campaign against impaired driving surrounding the Fourth of July holiday.
Some deputies will strictly be looking for impaired drivers — and they’re taking a zero-tolerance approach to drivers impaired by alcohol, drugs, medication or any other substance that impedes a person’s ability to operate a vehicle.
It’s illegal to drive a vehicle under the influence of any intoxicating substance, said Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike VanDenBosch in an email to media, adding, “if you feel different, you drive different.”
