HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Reckless driving and possible racing may be the cause of a single-vehicle crash in Crockery Township that seriously injured a Kalamazoo man, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Dill.
Police were called to the scene on eastbound I-96 just after 9:30 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2020.
Crash witnesses told police the car was speeding, possibly racing another car, before the driver lost control. The car went off the road, hitting several trees.
Deputies extricated the driver, a 21-year-old Muskegon woman, who had been pinned in the vehicle. She’d been wearing a seatbelt and indicated she had no physical injuries.
The passenger, a 25-year-old Kalamazoo man, had not been wearing a seatbelt. He was partially ejected from the vehicle and suffered multiple serious injuries to his leg, arm, midsection and head. He went by a North Ottawa Community Hospital ambulance to a Muskegon-area hospital.
This crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
