VALLEY TOWNSHIP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies have released the name of the victim in an SUV-car fatal crash that killed a man just before 2 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2020.
Police were called to 118th Avenue, just east of 46th Street in Valley Township on a personal-injury traffic crash report, learned the westbound SUV crossed the center line and struck the eastbound passenger car.
The man driving the car was declared dead at the scene.
He has since been identified by police as 33-year-old Marcus Joshua Difonzo, originally from Australia and recently living in the Allegan area.
The woman driving the SUV went by ambulance to Holland Hospital for treatment of what police indicated were non-life-threatening lacerations.
Initial indications suggest alcohol and marijuana are contributing factors in this crash, police said, which remains under investigation by Allegan County Sheriff’s reconstruction team. Names are being withheld at this time.
Once the investigation is complete, charges will be presented to the Allegan County Prosecutor for their review on the female at-fault driver.
Life EMS and Clyde Township firefighters assisted deputies at the scene.
