ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It’s a twist in the “Christmas in July” promotion that some retailers run to stimulate sales that a local utility is utilizing.
The Zeeland Board of Public Works announced on Monday a “bonus round” of “Power Dollars” that the municipal utility has held over the Christmas/New Year’s holiday season for almost three decades. All ZBPW customers who are currently enrolled in paperless billing, or who opt for this option by September 20th, will receive a gift of three unique five-dollar certificates in virtual “Economic Advantage Power Dollars” that can be spent at participating local businesses. The customers can display the certificates on smartphones for redemption, or can print the gifts out.
Utility officials say that this one-time program, valued at $25 thousand, is meant as an economic stimulus tool, and add that the “Holiday Power Dollars” initiative has infused nearly $650 thousand into the local Zeeland economy over its lifetime.
