GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A regional charity may be in line for $50 thousand.
Kids Food Basket officials announced on Tuesday that the effort to provide food for needy children in Ottawa, Allegan, Kent and Muskegon counties is a finalist for the “Hope at Work” award from the Pella Corporation. The award is to honor organizations “that have gone above and beyond to care for their local communities,” and the final decision will come via a public vote that began on Monday and runs through August 24th.
Branches of the national window and door designer and manufacturer made the initial nominations, with Pella company officials determining the 26 finalists. Kids Food Basket was cited for providing over 360 thousand “healthy emergency meals” to 70 distribution sites throughout the region since schools were closed by the state due to the COVID 19 outbreak in March.
In a statement, President and Founding CEO Bridget Clark Whitney said, “Meal costs have gone up 66% over the course of the pandemic. This award would greatly increase our purchasing power to continue feeding children and families in our community.”
The public can vote once a day here.
