UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) – It didn’t take long for a rebranded mobile phone store in Jenison to be the victim of its first robbery under its new name.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Koster, deputies were dispatched to the T-Mobile retailer off of Baldwin Street and Cottonwood Drive around 12 Noon on Wednesday on a report of a robbery. The caller, who had witnessed the holdup, saw the suspect leaving east on Baldwin, apparently headed for the entrance to eastbound I-196 about a half-mile away, in a blue Ford Fusion that had scratches on the passenger side, as well as rear end damage. It is believed that the sedan was one that had been reported as stolen from the Kentwood area.
No details of the crime were immediately disclosed, and the only description of the perpetrators was that they were four black men, wearing hoods and face coverings. It was the first reported hold up of the store since it was converted last month from a Sprint outlet to that of T-Mobile as a result of the merger of the two mobile phone providers earlier this year.
Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer.
