HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland Township’s board of trustees is set to have a virtual meeting at 7 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, via audio conference, toll-free at (844) 474-0925, with the access code 90828416.
Among the items on tonight’s agenda will be a presentation by Holland BPW’s general manager, Dave Koster on the anaerobic digester project at the Holland-area water-reclamation facility.
Three of the main issues in Koster’s presentation:
- Landfill limits: BPW officials indicate is not a long-term sustainable solution.
- Storage limits: Existing solids storage at the water-reclamation facility provides approximately 40 percent of the minimum storage that would be required for a new facility, based on current sludge production;
- Land application limitats – less land available, in light of changing farm practices, competition from other fertilizer options (manure, etc.), weather extremes, and a changing marketplace.
Landfull disposal costs are up by more-than 600 percent since 2008, and land application costs are up by about 65 percent, according to the presentation.
Township trustees will also discuss street light installation on Charles Drive, east of 129th Avenue, as well as other capitol expenditures.
