HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland-based Shoreline Container donated more than 8,000 cardboard boxes to Community Action House, to help meet growing need for food support.
CAH officials say the durable boxes are used to pack and provide weekly groceries to area residents who need both fresh food and nonperishables.
Since mid-March, when the pandemic hit Michigan, CAH has provided more than 238,000 meals, as groceries for more than 4,774 people, or done based on a curbside-pickup model aimed at limiting the spread of the deadly virus.
CAH officials praised the quality and quantity of boxes donated at short notice, saying the boxes helped “solve a major logistical problem: how to meet keep up with greatly increased demand from thousands of guests …”
The donated boxed enabled CAH officials to standardize the flow of both incoming donations and tens of thousands of pounds in food purchases.
“Shoreline Container is proud to join in supporting our community always, and especially in these difficult times. Community Action House has long provided critical assistance to many of our most marginalized neighbors, and we’re glad to provide them with a second donation of 4,000 boxes to keep their expanded operations moving forward in the coming months.” Bob Zuker, Shoreline Container’s vice president and chief operating officer.
Shorelines’ box donation means critical food resources from CAH will continue getting to thousands of people in the greater Holland community as part of the #StayHomeFightHunger campaign.
“It takes a community wide effort to step up service so dramatically, as we’ve had to do since the onset of COVID-19. Hundreds of our supporters continue to help us to fill three varieties of ‘family food boxes’ to share groceries with thousands of our neighbors in need,” said Scott Rumpsa, CAH’s executive director. “Already since March 16, we’ve provided over 230,000 meals worth of groceries to over 4,100 neighbors, providing critical support in these challenging times. Shoreline Container helped us kickstart our expanded efforts back in March, and we’re incredibly grateful to receive their second generous donation to help sustain our food assistance efforts.”
