HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 2, 2022) – A 19-year-old Holland man has been arraigned on charges stemming from a Wednesday night shooting that killed one man and wounded another.
Cinecca Madison was ordered held without bond in Holland District Court on Friday on one count of Open Murder, one count of Assault with Intent to Commit Murder, and two Felony Firearm counts. A public defender will be assigned to his case.
Madison was arrested on Thursday after the incident in the area of College Avenue between East 16th and East 17th streets around 10:20 PM on Wednesday. That was where the two victims, aged 19 and 18, were shot at as they rode by. The older man, Antory Burrell, died at the scene, while the younger man, Demontae Knight Jr., was taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in critical condition. The fact that Madison was arraigned on the assault charge may indicate that Knight was still alive at the time of the hearing.
According to Holland Department of Public Safety Police Services Captain Bob Buursma, “The suspect and the victims were known to each other, and this was not a random act.”
The incident occurred close enough to the Hope College campus that the school issued a lockdown notice that lasted about three hours.
The case remains open, and tips to the Holland Department of Public Safety (616-355-1150) or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536) are welcome.
